Straightforward In a word (or two): simply put. Follow the well-known acronym KISS – Keep It Simple, Stupid. This means using: Short words: why ‘elucidate’ something when you can ‘explain’? Similarly, although ‘experiment’ and ‘test’ do have slightly different meanings, ‘test’ may have more impact. Short phrases: do not say ‘at this moment in time’ when you mean ‘now’, or ‘respectfully acknowledge’ something when you can simply say ‘I thank you’ Short sentences: too many long sentences is a common fault of business reports.
